City of Fairmont earns WVML award for Norwood Park, announces ribbon cutting

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The City of Fairmont was awarded the West Virginia Municipal League’s 2025 All-Star Community Award for Enrichment for the City’s construction of Norwood Park.

At the Municipal League’s annual award ceremony held Aug. 5, the City of Fairmont was one of nine all-star communities recognized this year for outstanding progress. Fairmont’s award was given in the “enrichment” category, which is specifically awarded to highlight projects that improve the quality of life for a City’s residents. The improvements to Norwood Park earned this year’s award.

With the announcement of this award, the City is also excited to announce the ribbon-cutting and official opening of the park to the public.

Norwood Park Ribbon Cutting Details

City of Fairmont leadership, donors, contractors, and community members.

With the ribbon cut on this park, Fairmont will be home to the state’s first and largest all-inclusive park, built from the ground up with accessibility top of mind.

“The completion of this project is the action behind our words here at the City. We’re getting projects done, we’re building momentum, and we’re intent on delivering our community the City they deserve,” City Manager Travis Blosser said. “This park will serve, not as an exception, but as a model for all our park improvements in the coming years.”
