FAIRMONT, W.Va. — This week, the West Virginia House of Delegates awarded the City of Fairmont a Local Economic Development Assistance Grant in the amount of $40,000 to begin the planning process of improvements to Morris Park.
“On behalf of the City of Fairmont, I’d like to thank Governor Patrick Morrisey for this award that will go toward improving our city’s recreational opportunities,” Mayor Anne Bolyard said. “This grant will begin the planning process for improvements that we’re very excited to see come to fruition.”
While the specific improvements have yet to be officially laid out, a key component will be the reimagining of the historic wading pool that once attracted hundreds of visitors to Morris Park in the summertime.
“This award, which was made possible by the governor’s office, is another step toward our goal of bringing meaningful improvements to all of our municipal parks,” City Manager Travis Blosser said. “Morris Park is one of the most popular parks owned by the City, with residents coming out for both recreation and events. We’re excited to continue adding amenities and deliver our community the caliber of parks they deserve.”
